How Do You Keep An Orchid Alive?

Posted on March 27, 2021

Are you looking for some information on how to keep an orchid alive? There are many important steps that must be followed when caring for orchids. They are not easy, but they can be done. This article will help you understand more about orchid plants and how to take proper care of them.

When you decide to care for orchids, you need to understand that they require a lot of love, attention, and care from you. They need to have constant sunlight, water, and regular feeding. Many orchids will bloom for only a few days out of the year, so you must be prepared for this. However, most orchids will bloom beautifully for several months out of the year, so you can have beautiful flowers all year around!

How do you know when to water your orchid plant? If you notice that your orchids are not growing as well as they should, you should water them every couple of days. However, orchids grow best when you give them regular water. You should never water excessively though, or your orchid may drown.

How do you feed your orchid plant? Orchids do best with fertilizer. You should use a brand that is designed for orchids, such as Organiceed. Other fertilizers that work great for orchids are Liquid Nitrogen and Fertilizer Solution. You can also buy plant food at your local gardening store.

How do you prune or grow your orchid plants? As the plant grows, you will eventually need to prune some of the more vigorous branches. Just don’t cut too much off, or you could hurt the plant. As you age your orchid plants will tend to produce longer, thicker branches, so you will want to prune them more often as your orchid grows older.

How do you take care of a dying orchid plant? Once you remove it from the pot, take it somewhere safe to live until it recovers. Don’t put it in the sunlight or you’ll dry it out, orchids are tropical plants and adapt to the climate change better than most plants. You can give it a light soak in a tub of water with some water left in the bottom to let the roots soak up some of the water. If you don’t want to soak it, you can place the plant in a plastic bag and a couple of pieces of newspaper inside but do take care to keep the bag away from the orchid plant itself.
