What Do You Do With An Orchid After The Blooms Fall Off?

Posted on March 27, 2021

Many people who are new to growing orchids in pots, ask themselves what do you do with an orchid after the blooms have fallen off. You can often reuse the pot or container in which the orchid was growing. The only reason you would not want to use it is if you have young children or pets that could be harmed by the orchid. If you keep the plant safely stored then you will save yourself a lot of headaches.

If you are growing orchids in containers then you should place them in a sunny spot for a few days after the bloom has died down. This will help revive the plant and bring it back to health. You should also give your plant water regularly. You may have to add water to the pot’s several times each day.

Some orchids such as Papaver paeoniflorum and Papaver orientale do not like the cold. These types of orchids require a lot of warmth during the winter months. In the winter you should move your orchids indoors if you live in a place where there is winter. If you live somewhere with a lot of winter then store your orchids where there is no frost.

Once the plant starts to grow again in the spring you can spot it. If you are growing orchids in pots then you should remove the orchid from the pot before you put the plant back into the ground. Take care when you report your orchids because if you over water the plant then the roots will go to seed very quickly. You should leave about one inch of space between the pot and the orchid. If you repot your orchid in the fall when the orchids are dormant then you will be able to plant them in the spring and they should bloom beautifully.

You should also use what you use on your orchids every time you water them. You can buy orchid fertilizer at your local nursery, so that you will know what to use on your orchids each time you water them. When you repot your orchids or repotting is not possible then use what you use on your orchids every time you water them.

If you do not want to use orchid fertilizer then you should water your orchid plant thoroughly when you get it in the fall. If you have planted your orchids in pots then you should place them in the bottom of the pots before you water them. If you have planted them in the ground then you should place them in the center of a large circle or box. Or you can place them on top of a peat moss field. Whatever method you use to water your orchids make sure that you do not forget to put the pot back on the plant, or you will have dead orchids.
