Inspiring Gardening Ideas That Will Impress Your Guest

Using Herb Pallets to Grow Vegetables in Your Backyard

Posted on September 7, 2021

A lot of gardeners are beginning to discover that herb gardens are a very easy way to have fresh, delicious produce throughout the year. In fact, most herb garden plots are considered small enough to fit on a window sill or counter without taking up too much space. Many gardeners have discovered that planting their favorite herbs in pots instead of a large herb bed is a lot easier on the back and eyes. Planting herbs in pots also makes harvesting much easier, providing an excellent amount of berries and other herbs each season.

The type of potting soil you use is also important for growing herbs in a vertical herb garden. The soil should drain easily and drain thoroughly. This will help keep your plants from becoming bogged down with too much water and fertilizer. Herb gardens typically don’t require a lot of water but doing so every few weeks can be draining. You also want to make sure that the soil is well-drained so you don’t end up with soggy, wet feet after your guests arrive.

If your herb garden plan includes using pots, then you will need to use a good quality potting soil. You can either purchase potting soil or create it yourself with organic materials. You should use a light, weed-free topsoil which will ensure your herbs thrive. Most gardeners agree that golden sands and clay soils work best for growing herbs in pots.

There are several other benefits to growing your herb garden in a DIY manner versus purchasing one of the many pre-made kits available at most garden stores. For starters, building a DIY herb garden is pretty simple. All you need is a sharp knife, some wire, and a little bit of soil and you’re all set. Another big advantage of growing your herbs in a DIY system is that you can use your imagination. If you live in a climate with little sunlight, for instance, you can place your container on a shaded porch. If it’s hot out, you can place the container on a sunny window sill.

You can get creative when planning your herb garden. Many experienced gardeners like to place their herbs in pots that have their planting beds running perpendicular to the walls. This makes for an area which receives lots of sun but doesn’t get overheated because of direct sunlight shining on it. The herbs don’t have to be placed on a straight up slope either. You can build a shallow pot to grow your herbs in and then add another shallow pot to grow more herbs in.

A vertical garden design is a very popular pallet layout. Many people choose to grow their veggies in raised beds, which work great in both hot and cold climates. A vertical pallet layout is a nice idea because it makes it easy to move your plants from one spot to another. You can always move your herb pallet garden to a nice spot with some sun or shade.

When you’re ready to plant, your vertical pallet garden will need to be planted in rows. This is actually easier than you may think. There are a number of ways to plant your veggies in rows and it’s all based on the way you plan to grow your herbs.

For example, if you want your garden to look like a field, place the tallest plants on the longest rung of the ladder. Larger pots work well for this. If you’re planting your garden in pots, the taller plants should be on the outside. Smaller pots work better if you put the tallest plants at the bottom. You can always buy pots that are taller for the outdoors.
