Grow a Crop of Fresh Herbs With the Best Herb Gardening Advice

Posted on June 29, 2020

Herb gardening is one of the easiest ways to produce fresh herbs in your own home. All you need is a little bit of patience and imagination. If you follow these tips, you can successfully grow a harvest that you will be proud of.

The best time to start herb gardening is during the entire growing season. Unless you have a very good weather forecast, it’s a good idea to start herb gardening during the spring. This allows the herbs to be ready for the taste test. If you wait until fall, the herbs may be too old or not have enough flavor to hold their own against other seasonal produce.

Make sure that your garden has an environment that is not going to harm your healthy plant. Make sure there is plenty of sunshine, proper water and soil that is not too wet. Be sure to get rid of weeds so the plants can take root in the soil. There should be plenty of room for air to circulate. The growing period is critical to the quality of the herb.

Don’t be in a hurry to grow a harvest as soon as you can when you have a healthy root system. Your herbs may have no flavor at all if you don’t use the herb properly. Take your time and make sure you understand how to grow a healthy herb garden. The aroma of the herbs should be totally in balance with the temperature of the soil and also the climate of your area.

Don’t push your herbs into another design just because you want them to look better. In the beginning you will be tempted to try to keep them looking the same. This is exactly the reason you shouldn’t.

Use a large container so you have some natural lighting. You should grow your herbs close together so that they don’t get lost in the darkness. A traditional herb garden should be about three feet apart. Just remember that you want to use small containers to grow your herbs.

Get a two-foot pot so that you can try to grow more than one plant at a time. If you need to, use two pots to grow more than one plant. Keep in mind that if you are using a tall container, you will need to place it on end so that the pots are spaced out a little farther apart.

Don’t try to use the same lighting source as your herbs. The light you use will be the one that they get and this can affect the flavor of the herbs. Try to use the sun to heat up the soil so that the herbs don’t overheat in the shade.

The growing of the herb seeds may be a challenge for you at first. If you are new to herb gardening, start with just two seeds at a time. Remember that you are growing a crop so keep it small and keep the soil dry.

You need to be careful about the spacing between the seeds too. Keep your planting on the wide side and not too close together. You should always make sure the flowers and leaves of the plants are the same color.

Your herbs will benefit from mulching under the leaves and branches of the plants. This is the only way that the herbs will stay alive and healthy. You can also add compost to the soil and mulch the soil around the seeds. Add clover to the seedlings.

Growing a crop of fresh herbs is not difficult to do once you understand the concepts. Take your time and be patient so that you can produce a harvest of tasty herbs.
